Today was a long day. It was a sweaty day. Good lord, it was a hot day. I'll be honest. I didn't work on the battle scene today. The writing I did was on the script for the wedding ceremony and this blog. I still count today as a win, because I gave thought to the work, and I did work towards it, and I communicated about the work, and I did write on the ceremony, but I agree, tomorrow I have less hours at work and I will be able to sit down and do some battle scene-ning. But I did see Mad Max on Movie Tuesday. And holy lord in Heaven it was AMAZING. I gotta say, I learned a lot. I know it's a movie and not a book, but let's just look at these characters. Especially the War Dog kid. I absolutely love that they gave him an actual arc. It was ingenious how they started him off as fodder and then gave him a purpose and a love interest. It was amazing. And it paralleled his identity crisis. Absolutely amazing. I also appreciated the world-building. While I am still confused as to what exactly these people are eating and drinking if water is a commodity and pretty much everything is dead ... the rest of it was solid. They did such a great job with the exposition. Not once did we sit there and plod through any back story information. It just all happened organically through the storytelling. The other thing I loved was how the characters pushed the story forward ... sometimes literally. Never once did I feel like something was hokey or flimsy just to get a really cool shot of something. That movie was so solidly put together. I wish all movies were so artistically on point. Tomorrow is a writing day. The battle begins. |
